I "love" probabilities and statistics.

Assuming our first 10 flips resulted in heads, our next 10 flips "should" still result in 5 heads and 5 tails. This results in a total of 15 heads and 5 tails and a ratio between the two of 75%/25% after 20 flips. Again, assuming our first 10 flips resulted in heads, our next 100 flips "should" result in 50 heads and 50 tails. This results in a total of 60 heads and 50 tails and a ratio between the two of 54.5%/45.5% after 110 flips.

			Expected total
	First 10	after 10 more after 100	after 1,000,000
	 flips flips additional more
Heads 10 15 60 500,010
Tails 0 5 50 500,000
%H/%T 100/0 75/25 54.5/45.5	50.0005/49.9995

Statistically, once we flip 10 heads in a row, we cannot expect to "get them back". The universe simply continues as it should and drowns the imbalance.

I feel like I'm right there with you Lisa! Having left my job so Jeff could take this professorship, I find myself one of the unemployed. I was a little worried I'd feel depressed as I self identified very strongly with my career. However, I quickly found a public garden to volunteer at and a local Farm Co-op that will let me work for fresh produce. I am thrilled to not have a traditional job and still be participating in the communities I love (food and gardens). Both places have alluded that I could get a regular 40 hour a week job with them, but I'm not sure I want one. I like working on my own terms. I'm much less stressed. And now I can cook dinner every night and take care of the house chores so on the evenings and weekends Jeff and I are free to go exploring. I am thinking this was a very good deal for both of us.

I'll be curious to see what you do in April!

I know they waste paper and are hard to move, but I *love* going to bookstores to look at all the books, I *love* opening a book for the first time, and I *love* being able to turn pages and see the progress I make as I read. It's just so satisfying.

At first I was all bats for the Kindles and e-Readers, but I realized I just don't care about them at all. I like making notes in my books, drawing and underlining. I don't read much, but when I handled my dad's Kindle, I was even more adverse to the idea. I didn't like the buttons, I didn't like really anything about it.

I really like eReaders' capability when it comes to lowering the cost of text books and making books more accessible to the impoverished, but when it comes to reading for fun I really don't like them.
